Warm Smiles and Last Touches – A Relaxed Start to the Wedding Day
Bridal Morning – Calm, Organised, and Full of Emotion I began the day with FeiFei and her bridesmaids at a lovely Airbnb in Newcastle. Despite the large group and family buzzing around, the morning felt smooth and well-organised. I love those little candid moments before the dress goes on, the laughter, makeup touches, and quiet nerves. The room upstairs, where FeiFei stepped into her dress, had stunning natural light. With the help of her mum and bridesmaids, she transformed into a vision of elegance. And the first look with her dad? Lovely, candid smiles!

The Baltic – A One-of-a-Kind Wedding Venue Their ceremony and reception were held at The Baltic, a former flour mill turned contemporary art centre on the River Tyne. It’s a striking building with dramatic views of Newcastle and Gateshead, making it an ideal backdrop for timeless wedding photography. The ceremony took place in a large, dimly lit banquet hall with colourful stage lighting. It honestly felt like a theatrical production, especially when James sang during the bridal party’s entrance. As a wedding photographer in Newcastle, capturing moments like this is why I love what I do.
To accommodate guests who spoke only Mandarin, the entire ceremony, including the vows, was translated into Chinese. This made everyone feel included and added a heartfelt, thoughtful layer to the experience.
Capturing Joyful Group Shots and Natural Couple Moments by the Tyne
After the ceremony, we headed outside for the confetti toss. A sunny October breeze added just the right amount of drama to the photos, and we moved straight into group portraits while everyone was still gathered. Family photos, bridal party shots, and fun moments with the groomsmen, this part of the day was lively and full of laughs.
Romantic Portraits Around The Baltic
Right after the group photos, I took James and FeiFei for a quick walk around The Baltic. The light was perfect and the Millennium Bridge made a beautiful backdrop for their portraits. We didn’t go far, the building’s surroundings offered everything we needed. The love and connection between them really came through in these shots.
After the short session, we returned inside where guests were watching a lovely short film about the couple’s journey together. It was played in one of The Baltic’s mini theatres and added such a creative and emotional touch to the day.
Personal Touches and Chinese-Inspired Decor
One of the highlights of the reception was the décor. Each table was named after a sign from the Chinese zodiac, complete with golden figurines. There were so many beautiful and symbolic details throughout the day, and as a wedding photographer in Newcastle, I always appreciate when couples bring their own culture into the celebration.
Sunset Portraits Above and Below The Baltic
After the speeches, thoughtful, funny, and translated into Mandarin, we had another chance to take a few final portraits. This time, we headed to the top of The Baltic to the rooftop viewing deck just in time to catch the golden hour. The views of the Tyne Bridge, especially meaningful to James, made for some unforgettable shots.
We then went downstairs for a few final photos with The Baltic building glowing behind them as we made our way onto the Millennium Bridge. The mix of architecture and soft light created the perfect ending to their portrait session.
The Cake, the Dance, and the Red Hibiscus – Evening Magic Unfolds
Back inside, guests were greeted with an incredible wedding cake decorated with red hibiscus flowers, pomegranate, and two sugar figurines of a rat and a dragon – the couple’s zodiac signs. James’ delighted reaction said it all!
The dance floor kicked off with a romantic first dance, and then the party truly started. Before leaving, I captured one final nighttime photo with the Millennium Bridge glowing in the background, a perfect end to a perfect day.
