How to Look Natural in Wedding Photos: My Relaxed Posing Tips for Couples

Hey there, lovebirds!

If you’re wondering how to look natural in your wedding photos, you’re not alone. Most couples I meet tell me they feel a little awkward in front of the camera, and believe me, I get it! That’s why, as a relaxed wedding photographer, my whole approach is about keeping things easy, fun, and natural.

When it comes to your posed sessions on the big day, I’m not about stiff, forced smiles. I’d much rather go for a relaxed walk with you, have a little laugh, and capture those real, genuine moments as they unfold.

Ready to feel confident and look natural in your wedding photos? Let’s dive in!

Capture the Moment: Relaxed Posing Tips for Your Wedding

Let’s face it, posing can feel awkward. Even I feel a bit camera-shy sometimes! That’s why, instead of directing every tiny move, I prefer to let things flow naturally.

Of course, I’ll be there to gently guide you when I see a little tweak that could make the shot even better. But the main thing is: I want you to feel comfortable, connected, and totally yourselves. That’s the secret to looking natural in wedding photos.

By focusing on real connection, soft movement, and a little bit of freedom, we can create those beautiful, authentic shots that feel true to you.

10 Relaxed Poses for Natural, Authentic Wedding Photos

If you’re already feeling nervous about posing, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Here are my top 10 go-to prompts (not stiff poses!) that help every couple relax and look amazing in front of the camera.

Let’s dive in:

1. Chest to Chest - Toe-to-Toe

Just turn towards each other and get close — real close! Whisper sweet nothings, or just gaze into each other’s eyes while trying not to laugh (it’s harder than it sounds!). This one always brings out those natural giggles and that lovely connection.

2. Head Cuddling or Forehead to Forehead

Take it up a notch from chest to chest by touching your foreheads together. It’s cute, it’s cosy, and it always gets a giggle.

3. Wall Bokeh Shot

For this shot I like to use a wall, bushes, or anything else that creates a leading line and directs the eyes to the couple. Lean against it while your partner gets up close – it adds a touch of romance to your photos.

4. Small Spoon Cuddle or Bear Hug

Wrap your arms around each other tightly – but remember, no belly hugs! Keep it cute and intimate. Often, I ask the groom to whisper something in a very sexy voice to the bride’s ear, then she tries to look back at him in this weird position – that always makes them laugh. So, get ready for a good giggle!

5. Reverse Spoon (The Groom as Little Spoon!)

Why not mix it up? Let the groom take the front while the bride hugs from behind. It’s fun, playful, and gets you both laughing every time.

6. Walking Towards the Camera

Let’s add some movement! Just walk and chat, no need to stare directly at the camera. For this shot, I like to use some prompts to get some lovely smiles out of you! I tend to ask my couples to walk and do ‘’hips boom’’ or ‘’share a kiss’’ while walking. So go ahead, strut your stuff and let those natural smiles shine!

7. Wide Side Walking

Walk side by side, showing off your stride as newlyweds. The trick? Don’t look like one is pulling the other — instead, think of guiding your partner into your future together. Sweet, right? 🙂

8. The Simple Pose

Sometimes simple is best. Stand close (or apart), look at each other, look away, or even stare off into the distance. Don’t worry — I’ll mix it up to keep things interesting without making you feel stiff.

9. Dance & Twirl

Have a little slow dance, and maybe throw in a twirl. It’s all about capturing those natural smiles and that playful energy you share.

10. Looking at the Camera

And yes, we’ll do a few classic shots for the family album. Just hold each other close and give me your best smiles. Nothing too forced — just sweet and simple.
